When Rebecca asked me to join the writing team in writing a post about our “word” for the year I was so excited! I was thrilled out of my mind. After I calmed down a little, I began to think about what word really spoke to me. I looked at a couple of different bible verses that I really liked and I just kept turning back to my favorite bible verse, Proverbs 3:5-6.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
The word was trust. The reason I picked trust is because it is a concept that I constantly use in my everyday life, especially this year! When I first felt like God was really wanting me to get involved with 818 I honestly questioned it at first. I asked myself, “Will they really let somebody as young as me get involved?” Then I knew that I needed to TRUST in God and that He has a plan for me. He really had a path for me to take in the future and that is really where He wanted me to be. So I gave it a shot by writing a letter to Rebecca not expecting to get a note back from her a couple weeks later. Again, I was thrilled out of my mind. After a while I decided to e-mail her again. For the second time, not expecting to get a reply 20 minutes later. I really realized that God had a plan for me and I really needed to TRUST in Him.
Proverbs 3:5-6 is the first bible verse that really “spoke” to me, telling me that God wanted me to study that verse. At the time I was about 8 years old, and it was the lesson in my Sunday night class at church. Something about that verse just spoke to me telling me that this was the verse God wanted me to study more and share with other people. It has stuck with me ever since! This is my go to verse for any struggles I have in my life. It tells me that I need to calm down and give it to the Lord and that we will take care of it together instead of me trying to take care of it. Sometimes when I don’t ask Him for help I feel like I am shielding it from Him although He knew it would be a problem before I did. That just shows me more and more everyday that I need to TRUST in Him!
I bet if you stopped right now, there is somebody that you can think of that you trust every day, whether it be your child’s teacher or babysitter, your boss or your employees, or even the cashier at Walmart.
I bet if you stopped right now you could think of a time you had to trust your spouse in something, whether it be hoping that your husband doesn’t forget to feed the baby at lunch time or trusting that your wife will be home when she said she would so she can take the baby off your hands.
I bet you could also think of a time when you had to place your trust in an item, whether it be your home security system (so those crazies in this world don’t get in), or it be your car, trusting that it won’t break down on your family trip to the mountains.
I bet that you could also think of a time when you placed your trust in a pet. It might have been when you left the house and you trusted that puppy not to tear the whole house to pieces, or it be trusting the donkey not to kick you or your child when you go out to brush her.
Lastly, I bet if you stopped right now that you can think of a time where you had to trust God. We should trust God everyday whether it be to keep us safe on the way to work every day or to help us financially so we can afford to put food on the table every night to feed our family.
By now you should have just thought of at least 5 people, things, or times that you have had to place your trust in.
In each of these times, did you ultimately place your trust in God? Did you ask God to help you through the time or did you try to handle it on your own?
Psalms 56:3 says, When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.
Don’t try to handle it on your own. God will take care of you in every situation that you are in. This is why the word TRUST sticks out to me. It is something that we should do in our everyday lives. God loves you and takes care of you. Remember to turn to Him and don’t take care of it by yourself - HE has your back. He will make a way when there seems to be no way.
