As you know, we have AMAZING volunteers that join our Impact Squads from the Student Nurse Association (SNA) at the University of Tennessee. They are incredible with the kids and provides such a fun community service opportunity for them. Below is a video from last week when I had the honor to go share with their new members about how they could get involved this fall!
We are SO thankful for you SNA!
I'm so honored to share a post that was written about 818 Ministries by my friend Shelly Templin. She and I met in 2015 over dinner at a conference in North Carolina called She Speaks where we exchanged stories before a keynote talk. Three years later she asked if she could share about our story on her blog. Check out the story she calls "She said, "Yes!""! Thank you Shelly for your blog, the wisdom you share and for letting our story play a small part!
I'm thrilled over seeing how God has provided for this fall. It's going to be an exciting season here at 818 Ministries and we're pumped about the opportunities below to impact the lives of patients fighting serious illnesses. It would be an honor if you would join us in beginning to pray over this fall as we assemble our team of volunteers, pack all of the items we'll be giving away, arrange travel plans, etc.
If you're unable to join us for an Impact Squad visit this fall but feel a burden to partner with us, you can join our community of partners by partnering with us financially by clicking here!
UT Medical Center Cocoon Project for NICU Families
We are thrilled to be able to serve the families in the NICU at UT Medical Center again this Halloween! Remember last year when we donated cocoon + letter packets to them? We're doing so again this year and will be collecting them until Friday, October 26. Below we have a link to the story that was done last year about this fun day. It shows some sweet pictures of our visit! We're so thankful to be able to serve them again and grateful to YOU, our volunteers, who are so creative with ideas for new patterns.
Pinterest and Youtube are great resources for patterns for these sweet gifts. One quick note on sizing: please remember these cocoons are specifically going to NICU families. Be aware of the sizing of your cocoon + hat and keep in mind that you will likely need to alter the size of a pattern for a newborn to a preemie size.
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. I am praying specifically this month for the little warriors we have the honor of meeting through Impact Squad visits and the journey they are each facing. We have such an opportunity to step into their world and encourage them in the middle of the unthinkable of the life circumstances they are facing.
We're getting close to Halloween! From now until Friday, October 26, we will be accepting princess and superhero costumes that are gently won for use in future Impact Squads! Please keep in mind that when we dress up, we're typically visiting children's hospitals, so it's important that the costumes aren't "scary" but that they would be a fun encouragement to the patient.
If you have a costume in your closet you think we could use, feel free to respond to this message. Also, our mailing address is at the bottom of this email!
Thanks for checking in and hearing about what's new at 818 Ministries. God is at work and I feel so honored to serve alongside each of you. HE is ABLE to do immeasurably more than we could ever imagine.
