Three Two One by Catelynn Ellis
Happy New Year! I want to start this year and this blog with a game. I know everyone has practice with this, but let’s countdown the New Year together. The way we are going to do this is a little different though. As we count down “3…2…1”, we are going to associate each number with a gift.
Three. James 1:17 states, “Every good and perfect gift comes from above...”. God has continuously blessed us with gifts and surprises in our lives whether we are given a new job opportunity, a new friend that will last a lifetime or a new lesson in life to add to the blessings He has taught us. God loves surprising us with these gifts and He loves that you trust Him to know that these gifts will shape our lives into the life He intended for you. In 2016, we didn’t have a clue as to how these gifts would shape our lives, but we knew that the surprises God gave us served a purpose. By living a spirited life, we are more able to acknowledge the gifts He has given us.
Two. Now let’s take a look at just how these gifts have shaped our lives. Have these gifts made you reconsider how you spend your life or changed your perspective to appreciate the other gifts God has given you? Has a new baby allowed you to be thankful for the way your parents raised you? Or maybe you accomplished something you never thought you could, but you were given a new perspective on how you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you? By living a surprised and gracious life, we are able to see how God takes our strengths, our words, and our life and transforms it to new surprises for us to enjoy. He loves it when we enjoy and look at each day He gives us as a gift.
One. Lastly, think about how these gifts we have been given have shaped our lives, how God gives you gifts and surprises, and how we should live with a spirited heart that readily accepts whatever God may give us. He wants us to live a spirited life. He wants to see us be courageous with the surprises of talent and people He allows us to meet. He wants us to spend our energy being determined to welcome these gifts. By living a spirited life, we are able to use the energy He gave us to encourage others to see the gifts they have in their life, the positives about God’s gifts and how these gifts are shaping our lives into something much greater than you or I can imagine.
Let’s welcome 2017 with open arms, open hearts, and open minds.
Let’s take a moment to think about the things God has in store for us and how we can serve Him and praise Him for all the blessings He has given us.
Let’s live with more spirit, courage and energy to accept and acknowledge the gifts He places before us.
I have some great news for you!
Of all of the gifts that God has given you, today is your day to use it, spend time with it, but most importantly, enjoy it. You might be thinking, “Which gift is she talking about?” That’s the best part. God has given us so many blessings that we can’t choose which one to enjoy first.
Whatever we are feeling in our walk through life—joy, sadness, grief, or anger—we should always add grateful to the list. No matter what we are going through in life, there is always something to be grateful for.
In fact, Psalms 118:24 nudges us to be grateful in just a few words, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
All my life I have been raised to live with a grateful heart, and after being a cancer survivor, I have been given the opportunity to see the world with a different perspective. Cancer has showed me that there are so many reasons to be thankful for the day we have lived, the people we have met, and the opportunities God gives us to be grateful.
After twenty-six months of treatment, I was able to celebrate being cancer free! The day we celebrated being cancer free, we had a huge celebration at my house, and we sent “thank you” balloons to God for all of the blessings we are thankful for, and for all of the miracles He has granted us with.
As we go through life on a day-by-day we should remember all the great things God has given us—a healthy life, a car to drive, family and friends who love you, and most importantly that God has a plan for each of us, He is smiling down at you and is excited that you are enjoying His creative plan with His people.
God has given us so many reasons to send balloons to Him! One thing we could do every day is take some time and recognize at least five things that God has given you today specifically. We can keep a journal of our thanks or recognize them and share the five things at the dinner table, or even thank God for the five things he provided us with today.
So, let us leave our fears and troubles behind, and rejoice in the day the Lord has made. Let us understand that this exact moment we have today will never be had again, and that we should live each day with a happy, grateful heart.
Let’s make a plan for today and every day. Let us vow to open our eyes more often and take a step back from our crazy, hectic lives, to take the time to recognize the gifts that God has given us. Let us live with a bag of balloons in our pocket and send God a balloon throughout the day, the week, the month, and the years to thank Him for every obstacle He has brought us through, every person he has had us encounter, and every blessing he has given us. Let’s make having a grateful heart a habit and rejoice in the day the Lord has given us.
Comment below and share the blessings you are sending your balloons to God for, but most importantly, let us give thanks in prayer to Him.
