Picture
Materials Needed:
Any type of soft yarn, color of your choice
Crochet Hook G

Abbreviations:
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
Picture
Make a slip knot and chain two st. Sc 6 st into the second st from your hook.
Row 1: Sc 2 times in each st ( = 12 stitches).
Picture
Row 2: Sc 2 times in the first stitch, sc in the next st, repeat for the rest of the row.
Row 3: Repeat above.
Picture
Sc in the round until your octopus body measures around 4 inches. It will start to resemble a tiny hat!
Picture
Then, stuff the "mini-hat" with poly fill!
Picture
To taper the body down and finish it, sc and then skip a stitch until you have no st left! Tie it off and your body is complete.
Picture
To make the tentacles of the octopus, make a slip knot and chain 20 st. Do 3 dc st in each of the 20 st (only one row)! Very quickly you will start to see the tentacle curl on about the 5-6th stitch.
Picture
Make several more tentacles (the example I have shown I made quickly with 4 tentacles) and attach them to the bottom of the body of your octopus.
Picture
And then...your octopus is complete!

Ongoing Projects:

Little Hats Big Hearts: we are accepting newborn sized red hats for our project with the American Heart Association until Thursday, January 25th. Thank you to all of you who have already donated and who have communicated that you have hats in the mail to us. We're SO thankful for you and truly believe this is such an amazing opportunity to impact a whole new people group!

Octopus Project: We will be partnering with UT Medical Center this spring to provide handmade octopuses for their families. We will collect them through the month of March and they will be donated in April. Be creative - there are so many ideas on Pinterest of different color combinations and character themes. Each octopus will get donated with a handwritten letter of encouragement just like our hats and will be packaged with an 818 Ministries logo so that families can get connected to us!

Note: many of you have asked if there will be an 818 Ministries pattern released for a crocheted octopus. The answer is yes!  Look out for it in the next couple of weeks! In the meantime, feel free to use Pinterest and YouTube as a resource - they have a ton of ideas.
